5 women came to class.
supta baddha konasasa with a bolster:
soles of the feet together, knees wide (like in butterfly) with a rolled blanket under each knee for support. this encourages the femur bone to soften in the hip socket, releasing the low back and sacrum towards the earth.
this supported heart-opener is one of my favorite restorative poses to open with.
it is also referred to as the "goddess pose" because it is so nourishing for women. Opening the hips, groin, and pelivic floor, this pose helps to facilitate blood, lymph and energy flow to the digestive organs, urinary tract, and reproductive organs. In Traditional Chinese Medicine it is known to open all 6 yin meridians: kidney, spleen, liver, heart, pericardium, and lung.
upta vista konasasa- wide leg supported forward fold with bolster.
supported bridge pose with bolster OR supta virasana.
two women went into supta virasana while the other three did supported bridge.
transition onto all fours, cat/cow tuck.
taking a few moments to feel into the spine, coordinating the movement with the breath. iniating the movement from WITHIN.
supported childs pose with bolster
transition- gentle yoga stretching out the back of the knees.
some peeps did an easy down dog.
viparita carne- legs up the wall
savasana
been working with the theme of breathing into the heart.
